Elena Medel (1985) is a writer based in Madrid. Her debut poetry collection Mi primer bikini (2002) was considered one of the best Spanish books of the 21st century by El País. She was the first woman ever to win the prestigious Francisco Umbral Prize for her novel The Wonders (2020), which has been translated into fifteen languages. Her essays on culture and politics have been published in Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung and The New York Times, among others.
Lizzie Davis's recent translations include Juan Cárdenas’s The Devil of the Provinces (longlisted for the 2023 National Book Award for Translated Literature) and Ornamental (finalist for the 2021 PEN Translation Prize), as well as works by Daniela Tarazona, Elena Medel, and Begoña Gómez Urzaiz. She is an editor at Transit Books, following nearly a decade at Coffee House Press.
