If you want access to a clean, beautiful workspace in Seattle, away from the clutter and distractions of home, for writing, reading, thinking, or co-working, this membership is for you! Monthly members can book up to 12 private hours in The Parlor per month, easily scheduled via an online calendar. Hourly and writer's block appointments are also available. 


Make a cup of tea, spread your papers out across the large library table, flip through a book in the gold velvet armchair, listen to music or a rare cassette recording of your favorite poet on the Victrola turntable, and enjoy next-door proximity to Open Books: A Poem Emporium, where you can find over 10,000 unique poetry titles, including rare and out-of-print books, chapbooks, and journals!

 

Highlights of the Parlor:

-Large library table, perfect for use as a desk or to gather around (seats up to 8 people)

-Victrola record player with 3-speed turntable, CD, cassette player and radio, plus special rare archive of poets on vinyl and cassette (readings by Audre Lorde, Jean Valentine, Ntozake Shange, Adrienne Rich, Jorie Graham… to name just a few!)

-Curated resource library, including rare books and literary journals

-Wifi 

-Temperature control

-Electric kettle, mugs, and tea

-Scribbling essentials: pen, pencil, pencil sharpener, loose leaf paper

-Comfortable reading chair

PARLOR FAQS

 

How do I book my specific studio-time hours?

Monthly members will receive a link to a Square calendar to schedule studio time during Open Books’ regular store hours (Wednesdays - Saturdays, 12-5pm). Hourly and writer's block bookings are scheduled via e-mail with Open Books staff.  

What if I want to book studio time outside of regular business hours?

Booking hours outside of these time frames (in the evenings, on Sundays, Mondays, and Tuesdays) is done by request, via email (parlor@openpoetrybooks.com).

How many monthly hours do members receive?

Parlor members may book up to 12 hours per month.  

How do I share my accessibility needs?
