Class Description: This class will encourage multidisciplinary approaches to writing poetry and consider the environments that foster our creative practices. Poems and prompts will be shared to inspire us to write through our emotions and thoughts about place. The class will be open to all experiences of the land and life, including, but not limited to, the joy of being united with the earth and the grief we may feel over rapidly changing ecologies. All writing levels and backgrounds are welcome! In-person.

About the Instructor: Laura Paul is a poet, essayist, and multidisciplinary artist. Her work has been published in The Brooklyn Rail, Los Angeles Review of Books, Tarpaulin Sky Magazine, Pangyrus, The Comics Journal, Dream Pop Journal, Heavy Feather Review, Minor Literature[s], and other outlets. She earned her Bachelor's from the University of Washington and her Master’s from UCLA. She has taught classes through UW and UCLA. To find out more about her work: laurapaulwriter.com

About the Space: The Parlor is a cozy, inspiring room with a large library table, exposed brick, and natural light attached to Open Books: A Poem Emporium, located at 108 Cherry Street in downtown Seattle. Just a short jaunt from the Pioneer Square Light Rail Station and surrounded by ample street and garage parking, the Parlor offers a haven for private studio time and gatherings of up to 8 people.
