TV & Treadmill is a poetic chronicle of post-cohabitation, a roughly six-month project capturing the mundane terror-hum of a writer living alone for the first time in many years.

When one of poet Z.H. Gill’s oldest friends loaned him a treadmill “indefinitely,” his evenings spent jogging in front of the television—before ghost-hunting reality programs, Shark Tank, and Rossellini films—became a despondent writing practice which grew into a productive fixation and, eventually, a balm.

Through forms found and invented, Gill ecstatically plunders culture high and low in TV & Treadmill—from Ted Berrigan, Marguerite Duras, and Elaine May to Zak Bagans, Lisa Vanderpump, and Paul Westerberg—to fend off the soft horror of solitude and find a new way of living.
